ABOUT ME

Hello, world. I’m Ben, 25, from the north east of England. Looking at all my A-level results it was clear film and television was where I wanted to be. I set off for Gateshead college where I would drop all other subjects and start learning the ins and outs of the industry.

Fast forward to the University of York where I would study a Bachelors of Science in Film and Television Production. Over the three years I would make many friends for life, some of which would become valuable contacts in the industry. It was only upon graduating that I realised documentary was where I wanted to be. These were stories stranger than fiction, stories that inform ignorance and stories where you could connect with characters who were actually REAL. But I couldn’t get there right away…

The north east of England was, and still is, neglected by the film and television industry. For the next year I would do my duty on the front line during covid… and work on the checkouts at ASDA chatting away to the general public. I would need to leave for London, the other side of the country, to work for a company that makes broadcast documentary. But I got a job in my desired field Woohoo! Specialising in post production, I would have the pleasure of making programmes for the BBC, Channel 4, 5, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, and more.

Which brings me to my wonderful Dad. I want to take these skills I have learned over the years to create something we can both keep for the future. He deserves it and I would like to showcase his resilience as a proud son. We both agree this film should be shared with the world to raise all kinds of awareness for victims of abuse, homelessness and undiagnosed disabilities. Perhaps most importantly, to show that you can tackle what life throws at you. It does get better!
